earBuzz Review:
Babylon Mystery Orchestra's 2006 CD, "The Great Apostasy", is a more musically ambitious CD that the previous, 'Earth'. The key patches are turned up and the power chords come at you from all sides - while in other tunes Johnson reveals his more sensitive artistic side such as track 5's, "One Way, One Truth, One Life". It is one of the best songs in any of his records as it moves within the genre dynamically more diverse than anything else we've heard from BMO. The CD, however, opens with "Holy Ghost". The tune reminds us a bit of BOC's "Veteran of the Psychic Wars". Track 8, "Wolf in the Fold", is a lyrically diabolical message about the temptations of the wolf messenger. Johnson writes, 'i hunt the lambs among the sheep, i'm the wolf in the fold. .trust me". The long mp3 here, "Eye of the Needle", is a compelling commentary on homo-sexuality and the teachings of different churches. The thing we love about BMO is that the preaching is intense, but allows the listener to be ambivalent of BMO's ultimate position. It's a bit of anti-church. .while being pro-Christian. .The last track is the most penetrating. "Anitchrist SuperCzar" takes the book of Revelation and the concept of the Rapture and sings from the point of view of the antichrist. Intense metal mayhem and music - well done.
