earBuzz Review:
Music is the universal language. As human beings, all people have the potential to respond to rhythms and beats. Music can do anything; from heal a broken heart to present a path to enlightenment and inner peace. Spiritual music is as old as man itself, acting as a medium to the past, and a conduit to the future. Fanna-Fi-Allah are devotees to the ancient tradition of Qawwalihas. The group performs mehfil-e-sama. This ceremonial music is known for a charasmat qawwali style; featuring Persian, Purbi, Panjabi & Brashbasha. A listener does not require an educated background in this form of music in order to fully appreciate its majestic appeal. The ethereal tones and rhythmic progression create an almost trance-like environment, where the outside world slips away. This may be the goal of Fanna-Fi-Allah: The disintegration of outside distractions. If you have ever dined in a traditional Middle Eastern eatery, or spent time with a family from the region, this music will be familiar to you. With most of us caught in the daily rat race, this deeper form of music can provide the necessary detachment in order to center ourselves. Baba Farid helps to liquefy stress, and bring the mind to sublime stillness. MM
