earBuzz Review:
Folk music (Americana is select circles) sings from the deeper side of sub-culture. The music is typically sparse in form, yet lyrically driven, which allows for a more intimate connection between artist and audience. Lucky Mud are no freshmen, as their music has graced the globe for many years. They are a staple at the Florida Folk Festival, and have played the Forge in Bandera in Texas. The band has also toured Ireland numerous times, garnering respect from both local patrons and news media alike. Lucky Mud is the collective work of Maggie and Mike McKinney. Their soulful connection is palpable during the performance of "I Will Protect You." This heartfelt ballad is a much needed departure from the cookie cutter, sample-driven fodder currently filling the airwaves. The rhythmic ebb and flow of "Dancin' With the Devil" conjures images of the great "Horse With No Name" from the prolific America. It is clear that Maggie and Mike write their songs from the heart. Their warm lyrics and airy guitar make for splendid afternoon listening sessions on the porch, or in the car while battling the daily grind. MM
