earBuzz Review:
Mark R. Kent submits his 13 song collection of Irish folk/country traditional singer/songwriter tunes in a tasteful and gentle/easy CD "The Boy From Skibbereen". The opening track, "The Wild Colonial Boy" is an easy story of Jack Duggin. .'born and raised in Ireland'. .an upbeat strum-along tune about an outlaw who came to Virginia in the new world - an 19th century Robin Hood - robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. The long mp3 cut here, "John Riley", is a duet that features singer, Kelly McCune, in an elegant and beautiful recording. In track 7, "Skibbereen", Kent shares vocal duties with producer, Jimmy Hunter. Hunter's voice adds a complementary texture to Kent's - listen to lyric, "I wrapped you in a blanket", mp3'd here as a clip. Kent's guitar work and talent is apparent throughout the record - but not so blended pure and gentle as the guitar work in the track "Johnny is the Fairest Lad" - a beautiful instrumental piece with blended left/right acoustic guitar parts that soothe. Nice stuff. Kent has put together a solid piece of musical work that is as consistent as it is enjoyable.
