earBuzz Review:
Parliament-inspired dance groove and slap-back vocal echoes start off the "Greatest Hits" of Purple Flash with the opening track, "Keep Doing That Thing". The 1978 dance party number, complete with soulful back up ala Lady Marmalade, includes bongo percussion, wah wah guitar, and solid rhythm section to conjure undeniable excitement. Track 2, "Creme Souflee", seems to have a guest vocalist in "Wolfman Jack", but no credit is given in the liner notes, 'this is the great man of the radio. .alright alright, i'm feeling good, i'm feelin' right, i'm feeling nice, i wanna party tonight'. Track 3, "We Can Make It", continue the dance groove. In fact, all tracks except #7 have a dance floor groove to them that works. Track 7, "Da-Da-Da", has a 2/4 beat and 50's rock almost robotic mechanical movement to it. The final track, "Spacin' out With you Baby" is a disco-infused wonderful piece of nostalgia. Overall, the record is a fine collection of 70's and 80's inspired dance groove pop songs with professionally performed rhythm sections that groove the record together in throw-back fashion.
