earBuzz Review:
Hagadone's "Today is Yesterday", speaks his parts over selected pieces of music with analog keyboard sounds that wind within string swells, sequenced patches, programmed drums, and effected vocals that find a way to both rap and speak at the same time. The overall message in "Keep on Trying" continues from other records as Christopher encourages the listener not to give up. "I am Born Free" begins with outdoor sound effects and opens with a vocal that reminds us of the stereo delay settings in Prince's Purple Rain. The slow groove is infectious as the 1, 5, 4, 6 progression provides a dramatic backdrop to his words while his chorus, 'i am born free' follows the progression exactly, simply, and memorably. It's our favorite of his tunes. Hagadone taps into an industrial locomotive feel in "Pray for Life". Talk-box sounding intro leads into his faith-inspired speaking rap. The instrumental breaks are some of his more ambitious as the sound tapestry is unique here. "Uplift" moves closer to hip hop as does "Pain gots to Stop". This is Hagadone's most completely work of tunes and a good choice if confused on which of Hagadone's to buy.
