earBuzz Review:
Gorgeous acoustic guitar solo instrumentals along side poignant and well written acoustic/folk/rock songs about life and love, are what you find in Thom Rayne's 1996 CD, The Dreamer. Clearly a seasoned musician from the touch and skill he has for his guitar - warmly played with instinctive focus on dynamics and line direction of the pieces. Thom's voice is clear and right - a cross-over rock/country tone - with as much instinct on his vocal performance and delivery as his guitar playing. Rayne's music is simple - with passionate lyrical content and musicianship - soothing, easy, breezy, and perfect. Highlights on the disc include, "Dreamer" - an A/C ode to musical dreams and love lost that burns into a rock blazer, featuring a lighting speed lead from M. Fiori, Rayne's obvious quick hired gun; "Snowflake" - an acoustic guitar solo that gently spins through the sky with effortless technique; "Think About It" - you have one life to live, make it count sensibility. "Milky Way", a mystical acoustic account of living through love and pain in this galaxy. The CD, from start to finish, sounds like an entire composition - and whether the tunes were written around the same time or not - Rayne puts them together in a way that flows and makes sense - at the end, you feel like you just woke from a dream.
