earBuzz Review:
The One is actually a duo, hailing from the Bay Area on the left coast. Their sound ranges from 80?s-style rock/pop to classic rock. "Paradise"; the album?s opener, sounds like The One paying homage to Heart on their own way. "Remember" sticks with the Heart-like formula, but is closer to their later-post MTV era sound. "It?s All Right" gets a little more adult contemporary, a bit more anthemic, and goes for a more hooky vibe. "Warm Summer Nights" showcases the rock-y-er side of The One. This number is a little more guitar driven and features male vocals. "Teresa" exposes the pop side of the artist, and fills the necessary ballad for my sweetheart quota (every pop record needs a song praising the other half, or perhaps the one the artist is longing for). "She Don?t Believe" conjures images of 80?s music videos via the classic synthesizer chords and distant guitar sounds. "Free" combines drum programming/machinery with guitar riffs and soaring vocals. "Eye of the Storm" is a surprising departure, sounding like a combination of the Beatles and Ween. The album closes with "Night and Day"; another poppy, guitar driven number. The One covers a multitude of influences on their self-titled debut. MM
