earBuzz Review:
Bobby Thomas utilizes his singer/songwriter skills to spread uplifting spiritual music. There's a sort of cadence to his timing that is reminiscent of the splendidly talented Joseph Arthur. He announces, rather poetically, not only his commitment to Christian values during "Buckle Down" (the albums opener) but also his desire for adventure and experiencing the unknown. "The World As it Is" bounces in a folky, Ani DiFranco-like style. Thomas provides the quintessential lament for spiritual guidance during "Today." He digs deeper in "When We Are in the Light", an airy ballad. "Rain" showcases the darker side of the artist, while maintaining the elevating message inherent throughout the double disc set. Thomas sounds a bit like Justin Nozuka meets Jars of Clay on "I Am the Earth", especially during the bridge. It's no surprise that Clay is one of his stated influences. Fans of faith-based Americana/folk music should check out this double disc. Devotees of WFUV (Fordham University's famous listener supported radio/internet station) should also dig the strumming of Bobby Thomas, and the positive messages in these tunes makes for timely listening, given the current state of things in this great country.
