earBuzz Review:
Soulshine's album is self explanatory. The bands songwriting duo, Rhonda and Greg Baker, have been writing and recording music for decades. Greg enjoyed a glimpse of the spotlight in the early 90's with the band Pod. The group was signed to Columbia Records. Thankfully he still finds inspiration in his wife and fellow songwriter, and has seemingly put the major label stamp behind him, as their music is excessively positive (impressive, given the current state of the industry). Rhonda has been writing since her childhood, and the pairing makes for an explosion of 70's style funk, danceable grooves, and uplifting lyrics and rifts. Teaming up with a host of seasoned musicians: Brian Baker (former touring guitarist), Charlie Bushor (former drummer for The Why Store on MCA), Bob Bailey, and Paul Holdman the band took shape in the form of Soulshine. The horn section consists of industry heavyweights, the Soul Rays (John Garrett and Rob Dixon). This entire album is a virtual journey to a time when music was created to enrich the listener. Their overwhelming positivity is wholly matched by the musicianship, as the music is as clear as the message: Set your troubles aside and dance, its time to get down. MM
