earBuzz Review:
It is hard to imagine a better title for a country album than "Bible and a Bus Ticket Home." The phrase summarizes the life of stereotypical a country singer in less than ten words. Hank Grant also has the perfect country-singer name. Can his musical chops back his word-smith skills? With his tonality is would be hard to miss, as the singers voice is cross between Willie Nelson and Toby Keith (perhaps lacking the low notes of Keith). Many indie artists with a voice like that would sit back and let the vocal sell itself. Hank Grant is not afraid to go for it on Bible. "That Picture," the artist's seeming lament for an ex, gives the listener a broad scope of Grant's vocal range. His control is precise, but soulful as well. This is important in country music, as musical perfection can sometimes lead to boredom. "Stuck Again" revs up the RPM's on the strings, and finds Grant bellowing a bit. This track showcases his guitar skills as well, and he can play it fast or slow with ease. Bible and a Bus Ticket Home could be the record that propels Grant into the country galaxy. MM
