With "CLASSIC GYPSY" Ioan Harea transforms the folk music of Europe and South America into a new genre of virtuoso violin playing, elevating music of the campfire and dance hall to the symphonic stage. Combined with well-loved classical favourites such as works by Paganini, Fritz Kreisler, Sarasate, Gershwin and Mozart (to name only a few) "CLASSIC GYPSY" is an entertaining, high-energy classical performance, which appeals to all audiences

earBuzz Review:
The CD, "Classic Gypsy", buy Ioan Harea, begins with dramatic flair in track 1's "Two Guitars". Despite the title, the highlight here is Harea's violin work. Herea hit a pizzicato section at two minutes ten in that takes a brisk ride that grows faster and louder as he approaches the climax. The record is a collaboration of sorts as Harea performs with the Virtuosi Orchestra, conducted by Richard Stout. Herea's Canadian life coupled with his Gypsy-ish Romanian and Venezuelan past is paid tribute through this wide collection of genre and ethnic style. Track 2, "La Cumparsita", is a gorgeous example of the synchronization of a well-tuned orchestra and soloist. Track 4, "The Lark", is a chase of sorts - as the music paints a picture that could have easily been the music for an animated short. Track 5 takes a turn to the more subdued and mellow in "Manha de Carnaval" - gorgeous round guitar opens to Harea's brown playing with reverb. .gentle, pointed, and caressed in tone and texture. The record ends with "Csardaz", a fantasy composition by Vittorio Monti that moves quickly from subtle drama and light motion to furious lines. Another wonderful collection and our favorite of the 3 offered here so far.
