Out of CD Stock - Katharine Key's record, "In 'Tone", is a 10-track collection of finely crafted, immensely musical pieces based on the writings of Bahaullah, the 19 century founder of the religion by the same name. Key, accompanied by gifted musicians, takes her own gifted vocal and compositional craft into a wide range of genres with perfection. She, in precision and interpretation that are without compare, takes religious verses and transforms them into musical beauty. The opening track, "Rose of Love" is a slow jazz piano shuffle that features Key's gentle, vulnerable, yet precise and commanding upper alto. The following track, "Trees of My Garden", bet things grooving with a funky jazz-guitar based mover - clean and tasty. Key continued to mix it up with "Backbiting" as the genre moves to rock crunch with vocals that remind us a bit of Alanis. A musician can't abandon jazz for too long, and back comes a slow AOR 70's folk jazz guitar love song with "Prayer for Husbands". The title track, "in tone", is nothing short of amazing beauty.
