earBuzz Review:
Allah Ali and Kosmic Flight submits a 3-song EP with tunes, "Time Stands Still", "Never Been Hurt by You", and "Sugar Baby". The introspective and folk based lyrics are honest and effective. Ali's voice lands somewhere between classic country, Roy Orbison, and Neil Young as his vibrato-laden tenor is heard at the heart of each tune. He accompanies himself on guitar. "Time Stands Still" begins with Ali strumming his twelve-string with such ambiance that it sounds as if reverb is applied. The tune chronicles the pain of his losses in life as 'time stands still for me, drifting on the wings of the lonely'. Track 2, "Never Been Hurt By You", is mp3'd here in its entirety. The tune has Ali applying his tenor and occasional yodel into a blues based style. Again, his accompaniment is himself and his guitar. His Orbison voice sings, "i've been sad, yes I've been blue, i've seen times when I get so confused, but oh darlin' I ain't never been hurt by you'. "Sugar Baby" rounds out the EP with a simple yet elegant crooning blues country tune. The quality of the recording sounds as if was originally recorded on tape, and transferred digitally. Either way, this genre of music doesn't need crystalline audio to get it's point across - indeed some would say Ali's music is complemented by the easy simple technology used to record this with. We look forward to more.
