Elizabeth Stephens' CD, "Christ's Sermon in Song", is precisely that - Stephens has taken the literal words of the bible and placed them to melody and music. Her strong and pleasant voice harmonizes with itself in track one, "The Beatitudes", sweetly. Track 2, "Light of Life", exemplifies how Stephens overcomes the difficulty of taking a given text and put it to sensical melody. The midi and synthesized instruments are produced professionally and mastered well in support of Stephens' singing. The Lord's Prayer begins with Arp sounding strings and subtle rhythm section. The artist does a fine job of taking one of the most famous prayers and set it to music. Flute accentuates the minor-scaled interpretation. The lyric, 'for yours is the kingdom, the power, the glory' is memorable and effective. In "Judge Not" Stephens takes the unenviable task of putting music to a text that has as many 'j' sounds in a short period of time as has probably heard in contemporary christian music. She bravely accomplishes the task. Track 10, "Ask Seek Knock", takes a chromatic descending progression and puts a playful rhythm to the text. Overall, her effort is heart-felt and convicted - the CD is a delightful accomplishment in the genre.
