earBuzz Review:
The Feathertops: The name alone should attract listeners to this young band. Thankfully their music is as entertaining and creative as the name. Try to think of the Black Crowes, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Doors, and the Jerry Garcia Band jamming together in a smoky blues joint and you've got a decent snapshot of The Feathertops. The Meet the Mooks album acts as a sort of looking glass into the best of The Feathertops live shows. "Applesauce" kicks things into high gear with its hot guitar licks and high AC/DC energy. The band brings things down on "The Odyssey." This rock-n-roll ballad is sonically reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, with a dash of The Feathertops own melodic flavoring. More images of Robert Plant come to mind via the vocals on "Tarbucket Blues." This band can bring it, and the love for their craft is evident throughout the entire record. Their overall sound here manages to pay homage to true classic rock while ushering in The Feathertops own blend of blues, rock and folk. It's no wonder this band has backed some heavy hitting acts in their seemingly short career. They are musically wise beyond their years. MM
